LUDHIANA: Two assistant sub-inspectors (ASIs), accused of sexually harassing a woman, were arrested by Payal police in Ludhiana on Saturday.
The accused were identified as ASI Balveer Singh of village Lakha Singh Wala in Fatehgarh Sahib, who is in-charge of a police post in Payal area and ASI Harmeet Singh of Uksi in Maloud area in Ludhiana.
SSP Khanna, Amneet Kondal confirmed the arrest of the duo, and added that they have been suspended and departmental enquiry has been started against them. She added that Khanna police has zero tolerance for crimes, including crime against women.
As per the reports, a girl was having some dispute with her alleged boyfriend regarding which she had given a complaint to the police post. The reports suggested that Balveer Singh, in -charge of police post, was investigating the matter and she was often 'asked' to come to the police post in connection with the complaint.
As per information, meanwhile the girl 'reconciled' with her alleged lover and wanted to withdraw her complaint but the accused allegedly kept harassing her.
Cops said that after that, the girl complained to SSP Khanna Amneet Kondal and alleged that the post in-charge Balveer Singh and ASI Harmeet Singh used to molest her and make obscene comments.
They added that the SSP conducted an investigation on the complaint by the girl and after probe she ordered that a case be registered into the matter.
