LUDHIANA: It’s pay back time for the city’s affluent who have not been clearing their water and sewerage dues for almost two decades while using the facilities. Ludhiana Improvement Trust (LIT) has finally woken up to the cause of recovering its long-pending dues from posh localities, following a TOI report on the lack of action against defaulters.
LIT has started issuing notices to recover Rs 1.38 crore from defaulters residing in the posh localities of Sant Isher Singh Nagar, Rishi Nagar, Rajguru Nagar and SBS Nagar or the connection will be cut.
The matter had come to the fore after RTI activist Arvind Sharma sought information from LIT regarding pending dues. There are a total of 762 defaulters from four localities under LIT who have not paid dues since 19 years.
Sources in LIT said Rs 22.46 lakh is to be recovered from Sant Isher Singh Nagar, from Rishi Nagar the recoverable amount is Rs 32.20 lakh, from Rajguru Nagar it is to recover 39.17 lakh and from SBS Nagar they have to recover Rs 44.29 lakh. The authorities have issued notices to residents of Housefed Complex in SBS Nagar and Sant Isher Singh Nagar.
The notice has stirred up residents. ‘‘Yes we have received notices from LIT to clear all pending dues. The total amount would be around Rs 10 lakh. We have agreed but have also asked for some exemption because the amount has been pending for so many years,’’ said Sandeep Dahiya, president of Housefed Complex.
