Ludh players make PU squad for nat’l softball tournament
Ludhiana: Several players from Ludhiana have earned places in the Panjab University, Chandigarh softball team for the upcoming All India Softball University Tournament, scheduled to be held at Sant Gadge Baba University in Amravati, Maharashtra, from Feb 6 to 10.From Guru Nanak Girls College, Model Town, Ludhiana, players Nishu, Navdeep Kaur, Manpreet Kaur, Mehakdeep Kaur, Soni and Amandeep have been selected to represent the university. Alongside them, Nazia, Kamla, Manveer Kaur and Kajal from Khalsa College for Women, Civil Lines, Ludhiana will also participate in the national-level championship.
The selection followed the recently held Panjab University, Chandigarh inter-college softball championship for women, organised from Jan 29 to 31 at GHG Khalsa College, Gurusar Sudhar. Guru Nanak Girls College players clinched gold medals in this tournament, while the team from Khalsa College for Women secured silver medals. Their performances paved the way for their inclusion in the Panjab University squad for the upcoming All India event.A total of four teams competed in the league stage of the inter-college championship: Guru Nanak Girls College, Model Town, Ludhiana; GHG Khalsa College, Gurusar Sudhar; Khalsa College for Women, Ghumar Mandi, Ludhiana; and Post Graduate Government College (PGGC), Sector 11, Chandigarh.With their selection now confirmed, players from both Ludhiana colleges are preparing to compete at the national tournament beginning Feb 6.Dr Charanjit Mahal, director, and principal Rakhi Malhotra of Guru Nanak Girls College congratulated the selected players, along with coaches and managers.Principal Dr Kamaljit Grewal of Khalsa College for Women, Civil Lines, and Dr Mandeep Kaur from the college's physical education department also extended their congratulations to the team members for securing their spots in the Panjab University lineup for the national tournament.
