Lodhi club elections: CA Nitin Mahajan, Rishamjit Gaba elected unopposed

LUDHIANA: CA Nitin Mahajan has won the general secretary post of

Lodhi

Club unopposed after Vikas Dua withdrew from the race. Results will be officially declared on February 17th.

In a surprise development, a picture of both Mahajan and Dua along with cabinet minister Bharat Bhushan Ashu surfaced on social media after which it was clear that some sort of compromise has been made between both the contenders and shortly after this Dua withdrew his nomination and later in the evening returning officer of the elections declared only Nitin Mahajan’s name valid for the post of general secretary’s election along with releasing list of names of candidates eligible for other posts. The incident clearly speaks of how the politicians of Ludhiana have influence over the clubs in the district.

According to the members of the club well versed with the politics of the club, this is for the first time that a general secretary has been chosen unanimously or by opponent withdrawing from the race just before elections.

Meanwhile another candidate Rishamjit Singh Gaba who was contesting for the post of mess secretary too has been elected on the post as the nomination of his rival Vibhor Garg was cancelled by the returning officer on the grounds that Garg does not meet the eligibility criteria. The decision however has not gone down well with Garg who has stated that he will challenge the decision in the court.

In a similar incident candidature of Ram Sharma who was the favourite for the post of sports secretary too has been rejected.

In another update, Jagatveer Bittu who had filed nomination for the post of bar secretary of the club too withdrew from the race thereby leaving only Sachin Goyal and Ajay Mehta in the race. With all these developments the total number of candidates contesting for the eight different posts of general body of club have come down to 17.
