LUDHIANA: Congress candidate Manish Tewari got a shot in the arm when the family of late Beant Singh affirmed its support for him. They said he was like a family member and those who were opposing him in the name of late Beant Singh were doing it at the behest of Akalis.
Notably, an alleged statement made by the Congress candidate that the party had won the 1992 elections by default had left some Congress workers claiming that Tewari had insulted late Congress chief minister Beant Singh and they even protested against him.
Media coordinator of the PCC campaign committee, Ludhiana, Amarjit Singh Tikka said, The family members, who are busy with the election work of Ravneet Singh Bittu from Anandpur Sahib, had told him that it was surprising that some disgruntled Congressmen were misusing the name of the great martyr at the behest of those who had always opposed him (late Beant Singh) and were responsible for his martyrdom.
Meanwhile, the Congress has expelled Narinder Makkar and Rohit Sabherwal from the party for indulging in anti-party activities and playing into the hands of the Opposition.
