Ludhiana: Days after a woman solemnised court marriage with her lover, her family members kidnapped the father of the man from his house, took him to their place and thrashed him. After the matter reached the police, the accused sent the man back in an auto-rickshaw.
The Daba police, on the complaint of Sarita Devi of Gill Colony, Daba, lodged an FIR against Vikramjit Singh, Jaswinder Singh, Narinder Singh, Manjeet Singh, and Kaushal—all residents of Sahnewal area.

Sooraj Kumar, who worked in a private firm, was in a relationship with his co-worker Mandeep Kaur and they wanted to marry each other. However, Mandeep's family was against it. On June 3, both Sooraj and Mandeep solemised court marriage. Since then, Sooraj did not come home and was living with Mandeep at some unidentified place.
She added that on the night of June 7, Mandeep's brothers Vikramjit, Jaswinder, Narinder, and uncle Manjeet Singh, along with their five accomplices, came to their house.
They asked about the whereabouts of Sooraj. They told them that they were unaware of where Sooraj had gone with Mandeep.
"Thereafter, the accused kidnapped Sooraj's father Jayant and took him along.
When the accused were fleeing, I noticed Sooraj's friend Kaushal with them, who helped the accused in kidnapping my husband. Thereafter, I called the police and lodged a complaint. Thereafter, the Daba police contacted the accused, following which they sent my husband back in an auto-rickshaw. He was brutally thrashed by them," said the woman.
ASI Gurwinder Singh, investigating officer from Daba police station, said the police had lodged an FIR against the kin of the woman and their accomplices under sections 140 (3) (kidnapping) and 61 (2) (criminal conspiracy) of the BNS. The police will arrest the accused soon, he added.
The ASI added that more sections could be added to the FIR as the medical report of the victim, Jayant Kumar, is awaited.
