LUDHIANA: Khanna District Police on Tuesday claimed to have solved the murder case of AAP Kissan Leader of Ikolaha village with the arrest of a villager, who was "nursing" a grudge against the victim for the last six and a half years.
The accused was identified as 63-year-old Ranjeet Singh of Ikolaha village.
As per the information, the body of a 54-years-old Tarlochan Singh alias DC of village Ikolaha was found lying in a pool of blood on the village road at around 6pm on Monday, after some unidentified persons shot him dead, when he was returning from his field.
Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Khanna Ashwini Gotyal, while addressing media persons at Khanna, identified the arrested accused person as Ranjeet Singh of the same village to which the deceased belonged. She added that police teams have also recovered his licenced revolver, which he used for the first time since 2006, to commit this crime and a mobile phone, besides, impounding the scooty, she said.
SSP Khanna claimed that acting swiftly, the police force from entire district was mobilised within minutes and after verifying multiple acquaintances and connecting the dots through technical analysis, the accused Ranjeet Singh was nabbed within a few hours.
The SSP said that preliminary investigations have revealed that the murder was a fallout of a personal enmity between deceased Tarlochan Singh and accused Ranjeet Singh. She added that the latter was nursing a grudge against him since early 2019 when they both had a fight, which resulted in a fracture in the hand of Ranjeet Singh.
Police said that a case has been registered under sections 103 (1) (Murder) and 61 (2) (Criminal conspiracy related) of the Bhartiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and section 25 of the Arms Act at Police Station Sadar Khanna.
