LUDHIANA: Escalating its anti-drugs war pitch, the Punjab Congress, led by Captain Amarinder Singh, will burn an effigy of the Chitta Ravana at the site of the Dussehra eve clash in Ludhiana to coincide with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s address to small businesses on October 18. As soon as
Modi starts speaking, the Chitta Ravana will go up in flames, Punjab Congress president Captain
Amarinder Singh told media persons here during an informal interaction on Saturday.
“I will personally burn up the Chitta Ravana, let them try and stop me if they can,” Captain Amarinder challenged the Akali government, asserting “I want to show the prime minister what kind of goondas he is supporting.” “Let Modi also get a taste of how Punjab is burning under the Akali rule,” said Captain Amarinder, launching a frontal attack on the state government over the drugs menace that continues to spread unchecked under its regime.
Describing the Chitta Ravana as a `demonic symbol’ of the Badal government’s evil dispensation, Captain Amarinder Singh made it clear that the Congress will fight the drugs menace in the state till it’s completely wiped out. The Punjab Congress chief also came down heavily on the Badal government for the spurt in atrocities against Dalits across the state and demanded stern action against those involved in the recent killing of a Mansa youth and other incidents of violence against the community.
Blaming the Badal government squarely for the deteriorating law and order situation in Punjab, Captain Amarinder said Akali-backed goons had a free run of the state under the Badal regime. Alleging a deep-rooted nexus between Akali leaders and the state’s liquor and drug mafia, he said the people of Punjab were being made to pay for the Akalis’ sins with their lives. The people will not forgive the Badals for using terror tactics to stifle public protests and will use their votes to punish the Akalis, Captain Amarinder said, even as he condemned the unprovoked lathi charge on peacefully protesting government workers in the Chief Minister’s Lambi village. Captain Amarinder Singh warned the Badal government against continuing with its repressionist policies, saying the people of the state will use their votes clearly and categorically to throw him and his cronies out of power.
