LUDHIANA: After viral infection, now sore throat is bothering city residents. Since the past two weeks, clinics and hospitals across the city have been reportedly receiving several patients complaining of fever, sore throat, cough, weakness, bodyache and other symptoms. Medical experts attribute humidity to be one of the biggest factors in causing these infections.

“Around 30% of the total ENT patients are coming with complaints of soar throat, bodyache and fever,” Dr Navneet Singh, associate professor at ENT department, Christian Medical College and Hospital, said, adding that sore throat is generally caused by viruses and is sometimes accompanied by cold.
“Humidity is one such factor. The changing weather is aggravating these problems. Some patients are getting it due to cold as nasal discharge gets into the neck. One must consult a doctor if these symptoms persist for more than two days,” he added.
Dr Munish Munjal, professor of ENT, Dayanand Medical College and Hospital, said that humidity remains one of the main causes behind these infections.
“Lot many patients are coming high fever, which is sometimes an indication of dengue. This is why, medical examination is a must. If I am examining 80 patients in a day, 30 are coming to me with these problems. Paracetamol and antibiotics are advisable during this time,” he added.
Symptoms
This includes fever, headache and nausea. These may happen in case of a viral or bacterial infection. Pharyngitis symptoms include pain while swallowing food and water and a hoarse voice in case of laryngitis
