LUDHIANA: In a surprise check, health minister Surijit Singh Jiyani came to the Blind School and Bal Sudhar Ghar to inspect services. At the Blind school, the ratio of teachers to students was found unsatisfactory while children at the Bal Sudhar Ghar complained about the state of food and sewerage facilities. Senior officials at the Blind school were asked to present a report on the number of teachers needed for the students.
At Bal Sudhar Ghar, inmates said sewerage remains blocked most of the time. After checking food being cooked, the minister asked the deputy commissioner to look up NGOs that can help. He also asked for the formation of a committee, which has been asked to inform him about the requirements within one week.
At the Blind school, Jiyani talked to students and their parents by calling them randomly and assuring them of the upgrade of the sole printing press for braile script in Punjab. A meeting was called in the evening.
