Gurdeep Singh qualifies for World Weightlifting Championship

LUDHIANA: Continuing his winning streak and superb form, Gurdeep Singh, 22, a local weightlifter from Khanna has qualified for the 2018 IWF

World Weightlifting Championship

. The championship will be held at Turkmenistan from October 31 to November 10. Gurdeep is the only player from the state in squad of five players (three boys and two girls) who will represent the country at Turkmenistan.

Singh has qualified in 109 plus weight category event. The trials were conducted by

.

Gurdeep Singh wants to break his own record at the World Weightlifting Championship. He said, “I have practiced hard and I want to break my own record at the upcoming championship. My coach Shubhkaran Singh Gill has helped me during initial stage of my career. I have been training under him for the last four years. In 2015, I was selected for the national camp at National Institute of Sports (NIS), Patiala. I am now coaching under Vijay Sharma, who has further helped me to improve my skills.”
