Accused in Nabha jailbreak case dies

A gangster involved in the November 2016 Nabha jailbreak, Charanpreet Singh Channa, who had 12 other cases registered against him across Punjab, died while under treatment at Government Rajindra Hospital on Monday night.

PATIALA: A gangster involved in the November 2016 Nabha jailbreak, Charanpreet Singh Channa, who had 12 other cases registered against him across Punjab, died while under treatment at Government Rajindra Hospital on Monday night.
He had been brought here from the Sangrur jail, where he had been lodged for six months. According to jail superintendent Manjit Singh Tiwana, Channa had been transferred to the Sangrur jail on January 1 this year and had been kept in the high-security zone of the jail.

Last evening, he fainted inside the prison, following which the jail medical officer gave him first aid and he was rushed to the Government Civil Hospital, Sangrur. From there, doctors referred him to Government Rajindra Hospital, where he died while under treatment
He was facing at least 12 cases related to extortion and robberies and had been acquitted in some of these cases. Jail authorities are maintaining that he was sick and his condition deteriorated on Monday, after which he was taken to Government Rajindra Hospital, where he died.
