Gang of snatchers busted, 12 bikes, 15 phones seized

Ludhiana: Division number 8 police busted a gang of miscreants who executed at least 27 cases of snatching and theft in the city. Police seized 12 snatched mobile phones and 15 motorcycles, besides three sharp-edged weapons from their possession. The gang includes a minor boy.
The arrested accused have been identified as Sonu Kumar of Haibowal Kalan, Yuvraj Singh, Ankit, Ramesh Kumar and Vishal – all residents of Lohara and their 17-year-old accomplice from Haibowal. Additional deputy commissioner of police (ADCP)- II Shubham Agarwal said that Ankit and Ramesh already had snatching cases registered against them. After coming out on bail they added more members in the gang.
Initially, the accused stole some bikes and then used those stolen bikes to execute snatchings. They would roam around in the city during odd hours and threaten people with sharp-edged weapons. At times, they would also attack them and snatch bikes and mobiles, he said.
On May 28, the gang attacked a 50-year-old man, Rajesh Kumar of Jamalpur with a sharp-edged weapon early in morning and snatched his bike.  
Police said the accused used to sell the snatched mobile phones to labourers for Rs 1,000 to Rs 2,000.
