From Gurmat lessons to cooking, kids master it all

He said children attended the camp for two hours every day, learning new things from 8 am to 10 am.

LUDHIANA: A summer camp concluded at Gurdwara Singh Sabha of New Model Town here on Tuesday. Around 265 children of different age groups took part in the camp. At the camp, that commenced on June 1, children were not only taught art and craft, cooking, harmonium and tabla, but were also delivered Gurmat lectures.
Gursharan Singh, the camp organizer, said the objective of the camp is to teach children moral values so that they grow in such a way that they live a pious life and serve the society with zeal.

He said children attended the camp for two hours every day, learning new things from 8 am to 10 am. He said their camp was unique in that children were enlightened with teachings of Sikh Gurus. After daily course of teaching, snacks for refreshment were distributed among the children. Gursharan said most of the children took keen interest in Gurmat lectures, kirtan, poem and painting. He said some of them took an active part in cooking, harmonium and tabla learning. Simar Preet Kaur Bindra, a Model Town resident, said when she came to know about the summer camp in Gurdwara Sahib, she made up her mind to attend it. Her parents, on their part, allowed her to attend the camp. She said she learned Kirtan at the camp and her mentors taught the children with enthusiasm. "I have learned many moral values and I will surely imbibe these in my life," said Simar.
Harleen Kaur, a resident of New Model Town, said these summer vacations would be memorable and the only reason behind this is the summer camp at Gurdwara Sahib. She said she had participated in a poetry competition and had also learned cloth painting here. Gurpreet Kaur, a resident of Shastri Nagar, said she accompanied her friend to the camp after she came to know about it from her. She said, "I learned drawing and cooking.' Dhruv Verma, resident of division number 3 area, said he had learned many things. "I have learned how to make a photograph frame and have also learned kirtan here," he said.Jatinder Singh, Jasmeet Singh and Gurcharan Singh, residents of New Model Town, said they had learned tabla and harmonium.
