Fog continues to play foul; Trains arrive late at city station
LUDHIANA: The Northern Railway traffic continues to remain disrupted with the level of mercury taking a dip. On Monday as many as
Apart from the delay in the arrival of premium trains, three major long route train services moving towards Kolkata and Uttar Pradesh remained suspended in the wake of dense fog on that side in the early morning hours.
Even the premium trains running towards the national capital from the Amritsar had witnessed the delay of one hour with Shatabdi arriving in the Ludhiana station at around 1.20 pm which usually arrive 12.00 pm in the afternoon.
“Moreover, 12054 Jan Shatabdi Express from Amritsar to Hardwar faced a delay of more than five hours, arriving in the city station at 2pm in the afternoon instead of arriving at around 9 am in the morning,” inquiry officials said.
Meanwhile station superintendent, Ashok Salaria, claimed “One the major reason behind the delay of premium as well long route trains is dip in the mercury level in the northern part of India as there were instructions from the railway board not to run the trains at a speed above 60 km per hour, that leads to delay in arrival. Another aspect behind the delay is the dense blanket of fog during early morning and late evening hours on the northern railway route.”
Inquiry officials further said, “Even Train no12919 Malwa express from Indore to
Maximum delay was witnessed by train number 15651 Lohit express from Guwahati to Jammu Tawi express which arrived in the station with the delay of around 7 hours and ten minutes at around 2.30 pm instead of arriving at 7.30 in the morning.”
“Train no 15707 Amrapali Express from Katihar to Amritsar arrived in the city station with a delay of six hours and thirty seven minutes at around 4.15 pm in the evening which usually arrives at 9.20 am. Train no 12497 Shan-e Punjab express from Amritsar to New Delhi also reached Ludhiana station late by one hour and twenty five minutes at around 1.45 pm instead of 12.25 pm in the afternoon,” officials further added.
