Family, friends, fans bid adieu to Surinder Shinda

Ludhiana: Family, fans and members of the Punjabi music and movie industry gathered to bid final farewell to noted Punjabi singer Surinder Shinda, whose body was consigned to flames at a cremation ground in Model Town extension here on Saturday. Shinda died of multi-organ failure at DMCH on Wednesday.
On Saturday, his final journey started from his home in Sarabha Nagar at around 1.30pm. His body was placed in a truck decorated with flowers, with a picture of the singer in the front. Mourning fans paid last respects to him.
Those present at the singer’s last rites included Punjabi folk singer Muhammad Sadiq, singer Firoz Khan, actor Hobby Dhaliwal, Guggu Gill, K S Makhan and Satwinder Bagga etc.
Maninder Shinda, his son said that his father’s voice would keep him alive in people’s hearts. He added that he and his brother would try to keep their father’s legacy alive and serve Punjabi folk music. Saying that his father’s death came as a major shock for them, he thanked all those who shared their sorrow. Shinda, 64, a resident of Choti Ayali village of Ludhiana, was a household name in Punjab.
He delivered a number of hit songs like Putt Jattan De, Jatta Jeona Morh, Kaher Singh Di Mout etc. He also appeared in Punjabi movies like Ucha Dar Babe Nanak Da and Putt Jattan De. Surinder Shinda was a colleague of Punjabi singer Kuldeep Manak and had helped late Amar Singh Chamkila make it big in the field of music.
