Factory owner ends life over debt, 2 booked

Ludhiana: A resident of Kunj Vihar in the Haibowal area, who had taken a bank loan to operate a hosiery factory, allegedly committed suicide by hanging himself from a ceiling fan. The deceased, originally from Bihar, reportedly took the extreme step after being harassed by a thread broker and two others over outstanding payments.Following a complaint filed by his wife, the police have booked three individuals identified as Manish Kumar, Bunty, and Arvind Kumar. According to the complaint, the deceased had established his hosiery unit using a bank loan. To run the business, he had procured thread from Bunty, a thread broker. The complainant alleged that Bunty had been consistently harassing her husband for the recovery of due payments.
The complainant stated that on February 27, her husband saw her and their children off on a train to Bihar while he remained in Ludhiana. On February 28, she received news of his suicide. Upon returning to Ludhiana, Urmila discovered that the three accused had allegedly gone to the hosiery unit to forcibly take away machinery as collateral for the debt, which reportedly led her husband to end his life.ASI Sukhwinder Singh from the Jagatpuri police post confirmed that a case has been registered under Sections 108 (abetment to suicide) and 3(5) (criminal acts committed by several persons in furtherance of common intention) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
