PATIALA: Arjuna Award-winning wrestler-turned cop-turned kingpin of the Rs 6,000-crore international synthetic drug racket, Jagdish Singh alias Bhola, was on Wednesday convicted and sentenced to 12, 10 and two years in jail concurrently by special CBI judge NS Gill in Mohali on Wednesday in three of the seven cases linked to the 2013 multi-crore drugs racket.
Bhola, who was arrested in November 2013, has already spent five years in jail.
The CBI court convicted 21 others along with Bhola in five of the seven cases registered against them at various police stations in Patiala, Fatehgarh Sahib and Mandi Gobindgarh between 2013 and 2017. They had been charged under various sections of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985.
These seven cases initially were heard separately in Patiala and Fatehgarh Sahib and these all were clubbed after the proceedings were transferred to the CBI court. However, all the accused were acquitted in two of the seven cases registered against them.
Bhola was convicted in three cases — FIR Numbers 45, 56 and 69 — and acquitted in four cases totally. Anoop Singh Kahlon was convicted in FIR number 45 and industrialist Jagjit Singh Chahal in FIR Number 69 and were acquitted in all other cases.
The others who were convicted along with Bhola are Jagjit Chahal, Anoop Singh Kahlon, Baljinder Sonu, Satinder Dhamma, Sarabjit Singh Saba, Kulwinder Rocky, Kuldeep Singh, Sandeep Singh, Manpreet Singh, Gabbar Singh, Kulbir Singh, Harpreet Singh Lamba, Davinder Happy, Basawa Singh, Gurjeet Gaba, Sukhjit Singh Sukha, Suresh Kumar, Dev Behal, Rakesh Sandhu, Sachin Sardana and Davinder Kant Sharma.
