LUDHIANA: An official of a sugar mill died in a road accident after his car hit a carcass of a cattle on Chandigarh-Ludhiana road near Samrala late on Sunday evening. The victim - Amrinderpal Singh Dilawari of Mohali - was a chief engineer of a sugar mill at Budhewal village near Kohara of Ludhiana.

Police officials said Amrinderpal was going from his house to his work place for night duty in his Swift Dzire. He couldn't spot the carcass of a cattle lying on the road as there was another vehicle in front of his car near Bondli area on Chandigarh-Ludhiana Highway.

Cops said though a man driving a Duster hit the cattle first, he had a miraculous escape. Amrinderpal's car, which was following the Duster, also rammed the carcass. The vehicle rolled over around 3 to 4 times before falling on a kacha spot on the roadside. Ranjit Kaur of Samrala said her car was following Amrinderpal's Dzire. After colliding with the carcass of the cattle, the vehicle flipped in the air. She stopped her car immediately and tried to get the injured person out of the car.

Police officials said the car was so much damaged that it became a challenge for people to bring him out of the vehicle. Amrinderpal was then rushed to the sub-divisional hospital in Samrala.

Dr Sanchari Saha of the sub-divisional hospital said the patient was brought dead at the hospital. She said a passer-by Sukhdeep Singh had brought Amrinderpal to the hospital.

Sub Inspector Bhinder Singh, SHO, Samrala police station, said they have initiated inquest proceedings under Section 174 of CrPC into the matter.
