College principal Dr TL Joshi welcomed the chief guest, keynote speaker, former chairman of PU's physical education department and all the delegates. He highlighted scope of jobs for the students of physical education.
Speaking the application of sports psychology, Mann expressed the view that for an outstanding performance, mental and emotional health was as important as physical health and we should do mental exercises to become mentally and emotionally strong. ''For this, we have to practice giving attention, doing concentration and remain focused on our goals. We should also not only learn to control our emotions but also sublimate them. Only after this we can compete at the world level,'' he said.
In the inaugural address, Dr Kanwaljeet Singh focused on change that had taken place in people's attitude towards the subject of physical education. ''Earlier a teacher of physical education was considered only a PT master whose only duty was to maintain discipline by blocking the entry of the rowdy elements in the institution. Now the people have started taking the subject of physical education seriously. But still we are far behind as compared to western countries where physical education is considered as important as any other subjects,'' he said.
He also said that physical education was only subject which dealt with a complete human being.
Dr Parminder Singh, head, department of physical education, thanked the chief guest, the keynote speaker and delegates for coming all along to attend the conference.
After the inauguration, two technical sessions were also held in which delegates interacted on a wide range of subjects related to the physical education with a prime focus on the topic physical education as profession.
