Man arrested for hitting boy with hammer

LUDHIANA: A day after he repeatedly attacked a 10-year-old boy on head with a

hammer

, the police arrested the accused from his house in Guru Arjun Dev Nagar on Tuesday.


An inebriated Ram Chandra, 36, assaulted the boy, Deepak, to take revenge on the latter’s mother, who “often wrangled’ with him. Ram and Deepak lived in the same building of labour quarters.

Deepak’s mother Sunaina said, “Around 6pm on Monday, Deepak said he was going out to play as his friends were calling him. Minutes later, neighbours came to my house, saying a man was hitting Deepak.”

Sunaina rushed to the park near LIG flats and found his son lying in a pool of blood. “With the help of neighbours, I rushed Deepak to civil hospital, from where he was referred to CMC hospital, Brown Road. He has sustained nine injuries, including seven on head, one each on nose and right ear. Doctors said his condition was stable,” she added.

In the meantime, the area residents nabbed Ram, a native of Bihar, and called up the police.
