He added that on the basis of development work done by his brother and sister-in-law, villagers had asked them that Gurjeet Singh should contest the election for sarpanch.
Gurmeet Singh said that since his elder brother was in jail in some case, he had filed the nomination papers on behalf of Gurjeet.
Rajwinder Kaur, outgoing sarpanch and wife of Gurjeet Singh, said that he had undertaken development works in the village and he was contesting election so that he would get a chance to complete the unfinished works.
On 27 September 2014, Gurjeet Singh along with three policemen (all posted with Machhiwara police station), had allegedly gunned down Jatinder Singh (25) alias Goldy and his brother Harinder Singh (23) alias Lally at Ahluwalia Colony in Jamalpur at around 9am.
