LUDHIANA: After receiving innumerable complaints from residents, deputy commissioner Rahul Tiwari checked the infrastructure at registration office (west) and assured the complainants that proper facilities would be provided to them by April 20.
From the past many days, the district administration was receiving complaints regarding the absence of toilet facilities for visitors, especially ladies, and the non-functional fans even in this sultry weather.
After paying a visit to the office, he said, “Actually, the office is being run from the building belonging to municipal corporation (MC) and so we cannot do much in the direction.”
“But we have decided to convene a special meeting with the civic body officials to chalk out a strategy for ensuring improved amenities at the site,” he added.
Meanwhile, Tiwari, who recently took charge, had earlier also received an anonymous complaint on March 5. It mentioned that at sub-registrar office (east), the numberdaars charge Rs 500 for being witness. People do not get their land registered if they do not get the signature of witness and so are compelled to pay Rs 500, it alleged.
Tiwari went to the office and personally talked to the customers, telling them that if they have photo identity cards, they do not need any witness. Notice boards stating the same have been put up in four registrar offices.
Later, boards were also installed mentioning the requirement for getting the registration done and bearing the phone number of DC. Harassed persons would be free to contact him, it stated.
