Cricket match ends in clash, 7 injured
Ludhiana: A video of two groups of men attacking each other with cricket bats went viral on social media on Friday. In the video, men could be seen scuffling. A man hit other in the head with a bat following which the victim fell unconscious. Jamalpur police stated that the scuffle occurred between two groups over a cricket match.At least seven persons of both the groups were injured in the incident, out of which one has been admitted to the PGI Chandigarh with severe head injury. Sintu Kumar, a factory worker, is stated to be critical. The other injured are Gangu Kumar, Pintu, Sonu Kumar, Monu Kumar and Rahul and Akshay (all residents of Jamalpur area and workers of different factories).Inspector Bikramjit Singh, SHO, Jamalpur police station, said the initial probe found that two groups of men were playing cricket in the locality. Sintu, Gangu, Pintu, Sonu and Monu were in one group who were bowling while Rahul and others were in the other group. Meanwhile, a player of Rahul’s team was declared out, however he claimed otherwise. This triggered an argument between the groups. The bowling team started going out of the ground, which angered the other team. They started manhandling the bowling team.“The situation turned ugly, when one of the accused used a bat and started hitting the other team. One of the accused hit Sintu with a bat in his head and Sintu fell down unconscious and started bleeding excessively. Sintu’s brother-in-law Gangu came for his rescue and he was attacked too. Thereafter, both the groups attacked each other with full force. The local residents and some women intervened. Thereafter, the injured were rushed to the hospital,” he added. Inspector said Sintu’s condition is critical and he has been admitted to the PGI Chandigarh while others have got minor injuries. Police have recorded statements of one of the groups and statements of the other group is yet to be recorded. The police will act further after recording statements and getting medical reports of the injured.
