LUDHIANA: The Koomkalan police booked a couple for assaulting a health department employee on Saturday. The accused was pressurising the health department employee to provide them the death certificate of her father.

The accused have been identified as Dilraj Kaur of Ajnod village and her husband

Complainant Harpreet Kaur, 49, who is a multipurpose health worker at sub-centere at Kot Gangu Rai village stated that she has the charge of issuing death and birth certificates as well. On Saturday, the accused came to her and forced her to issue the death certificate of her father

had already received the original copy of the death certificate, the accused started abusing her. The accused thrashed her and when she raised an alarm the accused fled.

Assistant sub-inspector (ASI) Gurmukh Singh, who is investigating the case, said a case under sections 323 (voluntarily causing hurt), 353 (assault or criminal force to deter public servant from discharge of his duty), 186 (obstructing public servant in discharge of public functions), 355 (assault or criminal force with intent to dishonor person), 506 (criminal intimidation) and 34 (act done by several persons in furtherance of common intention) of IPC has been lodged against the accused at Koomkalan police station. The accused will soon be arrested, they added.
