LUDHIANA: A day after
Navjot Singh Sidhu supported a group of
Congress leaders caused huge embarrassment to the Congress party by conducting a meeting at Chandigarh against chief minister
Captain Amarinder Singh and even indirectly demanding replacement of CM, the Congress leaders of Ludhiana barring a few have come out in open support of the CM and deposed their faith in him.
Some leaders have also gone to the extent of openly lambasting Sidhu holding him responsible for the ugly situation.
MLA Rakesh Pandey, who is amongst the seniormost Congress leaders of the state, said, “The incident of some leaders ganging up against the chief minister was indeed was a very bad episode. They are damaging their own party by committing such blunders. These people are ruining the image of the party and if they continue to indulge in such acts, the party will have to pay the price in coming elections. It is strange that why after four and half years they are running to high command demanding changing the CM. Rather than meeting them, Navjot who is the party chief now should have snubbed these leaders but it seems everything happened with his consent”
Cabinet minister Bharat Bhushan Ashu said, “Yesterday’s episode was very unfortunate and this definitely will have some repercussions in the coming days. What was, even more, worse is the demand for the replacement of CM which is not only unjustified but puts the party and leadership in a bad light. But in a good development today, things seem to be under control and I hope that rather than indulging in acts of weakening the party, everyone will focus on upcoming elections and make congress victorious with a huge margin.”
According to Ludhiana MP Ravneet Singh Bittu, “It is very shocking that with just a few months to go for elections, such senior ministers and leaders are indulging in actions which are going to cause irreparable damage to the party. If these leaders were having so many problems with Captain Amarinder Singh being CM or he was not the right CM, then why for four and half years have these people remained as cabinet ministers and on other plum posts. It would be better for everyone that, all these ministers rather than demanding CM’s replacement should themselves show the spirit of sacrifice and resign from their posts. One thing is very clear that next elections will be fought under the leadership of Captain Amarinder Singh only.”
