LUDHIANA: A private bus conductor was killed in a major accident, when his over-speeding bus rammed into an SUV at Ghuman Chowk in Sudhar township, 29 kilometers from here. Three suspected with head injuries were referred to Dayanand Medical College and Hospital (DMCH), Ludhiana, one patient with spinal injury was referred to Civil Hospital, Ludhiana, and one was brought dead. Six patients are with us now and undergoing treatment," said Dr RP Bhatia, senior medical officer, CHC Sudhar.
According to passengers travelling in the bus, driver Sandeep Singh was over-speeding and probably drunk when driving from Ludhiana to Raikot. "At Ghuman Chowk, Sandeep lost control and hit an SUV coming from the front, after which he fled from the spot. We are still searching for him," said sub-inspector Vikramjeet Singh. "Conductor Balveer Singh, who was at the bus door, died on the spot," he added. One critical patient was immediately rushed to the Dayanand Medical College and Hospital (DMCH). However, no cases have been registered so far, as the SUV driver is still unconscious. "A case will be registered on the SUV driver's statement against the bus driver," said Singh.
