Complaint filed after 39 yrs, police say accused is dead

Ludhiana: Nearly 39 years after important revenue documents went missing, Ludhiana revenue office (east) on Tuesday filed a police complaint against a former patwari. Though police registered an FIR against former patwari Krishan Kumar, investigators came to know on Wednesday that the accused had passed away.In his complaint, Ludhiana naib tehsildar (east) Jagseer Singh said Kumar was the patwari in the office from July 13, 1983, to May 2, 1985. However, he did not hand over the documents, including the map and field map, to his successor, Satpal Singh. Soon after the complaint, a case was registered at Division VI police station.ASI Onkar Singh, the investigating officer, said they were yet to ascertain the date on which the accused had died. He had been booked under Section 409 (criminal breach of trust by public servant) of the IPC.
