Commuters see red as traffic lights go off
LUDHIANA: Traffic lights are on the blink at many busy chowks in the city, which has led to problems for commuters. Akash Batham, a student from Civil Lines, said, "Traffic lights at many busy chowks in the city are frequently non-functional. Lights at the busy Bharat Nagar Chowk were switched off at around 2pm. Commuters faced a lot of inconvenience because of that."
As it is, Ludhiana has never been known for smooth traffic and the condition of traffic lights only compounds the chaos on the roads.

Tanish Arora, a businessman from Model Town, said, "In a city like Ludhiana where the volume of traffic is high, traffic lights are the best way of ensuring smooth flow of traffic. However, since traffic lights are often on the blink, there is a lot of chaos on city roads."
Traffic in-charge Jasmine Kaur justified the situation saying it was unavoidable at times. "We have to switch off traffic lights during VIP movement or to accommodate a religious procession passing through the area. However, we have deployed traffic policemen on the busy chowks to manage traffic," she explained.
