Clean Buddha Dariya, save ‘mera Rajasthan’: Guv

“Jis tarah se Buddha Nullah pradushit hua hai, uske liye bhi aapko prayatn karne ki avashyakta hai. Iska sabse bada shikar agar ho raha hai to mera Rajasthan ho raha hai. Iski vajah se Rajasthan se ek train chalti hai, uska naam hi ‘cancer train’ hai,” Punjab governor Gulab Chand Kataria said during an event organised to award startups.

Underlining the urgent need to address the pollution of Buddha Dariya, he said the biggest victim of the contamination is his native state of Rajasthan.

Exhorting the industry to make serious efforts to curb pollution of Buddha Nullah, he said such initiatives would be futile without their active participation. The governor also cited Gurbani’s message on environmental protection.

He suggested a single-window system for the benefit of the industry, adding that development must go hand in hand with environmental protection.

Flagging unemployment as a major issue, he said startups could be a solution.

Praising Punjabis for their technical acumen, he noted that the floating ATVs deployed during last year’s floods were developed by locals. He also appreciated ground-level efforts during the floods, adding that he had not witnessed such massive flooding before. Kataria said people serving langar reached those in need even before the government and administration.

On the petrol and diesel shortage crisis, he stressed the urgent need to adopt solar energy.

As part of austerity measures, the governor arrived in Ludhiana with a smaller convoy comprising only three vehicles. He said that in the face of difficulties, people must come together to tackle the crisis and conserve fuel.
