Ludhiana: As District Bar Association (DBA) members abstained from work in protest against the registration of a case against three advocates, causing inconvenience to the itigants.
After police accepted the demands of DBA, the advocates called off the strike at 1 pm, but didn’t work even in then.
DBA president Gurkirpal Singh Gill said the strike was complete and the court-related work remained stalled.
The advocates didn’t attend hearings in courts as they had decided to abstain from work in protest against the registering of case against three advocates by Division number three police station. He added that they held a meeting with joint commissioner of police (Jt CP) Narindra Bhargav where station house officer (SHO) of the concerned police station and assistant commissioner of police (ACP) of the area were present. The officer assured them that they wouls remove the names of advocates from the first information report (FIR) after which they decided to end their strike, he added. “Such incidents do happen sometimes. We had also witnessed one such incident in 2020”, he said.
Meanwhile, because of the strike, the litigants faced problems.

Satish Jain said that because the gates connecting the lawyers’ chambers to the court complex along with the lifts were closed on most floors, he was forced to take the stairs to the second floor.
