LUDHIANA: A camp to mark World Population Day 2010 in Mini Chappar village, Qila Raipur, near Ludhiana was organized on Sunday. Pregnant women and babies up to the age of one-year-old were invited from Mini Chappar, Chappar, Latala, Dhoorkot, Ranguwal and Ghugrana.
Inaugurating the event, Bibi Gurdial Kaur Khangura said that the camp was a good way to mark World Population Day.
She said that all the children who were there to attend the camp when they grow up would not require to attend any such camp that was being organized now.
Four doctors, led by Dr Kamaljit, were present at the camp to attend to the women, and the medicines such as folic acid (essential for pregnant women) were provided free to women. With theme of World Population Day being on census this year, Bibi Gurdial added they chose to represent that sentiment by working with the youngest citizens of India, in one of the poorest areas near Ludhiana with slogan that ??Everyone Counts'' including the youngest citizens.
Women were also counselled on the importance of registering the birth of their children. The event was organized by Life Builders, a london-based NGO that has joined hands with another Babu Joginder Singh Benevolent Trust.
