Breezy soak now but 40 kmph winds ahead in Ludhiana.
Ludhiana: A sudden atmospheric shift brought the city to a standstill on Tuesday as unseasonal rain and heavy cloud cover sent daytime temperatures plunging more than 9 degrees below the April average. While residents welcomed the respite from the burgeoning summer heat, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a "yellow alert" for Wednesday, warning of impending thunderstorms and gusty winds reaching up to 40 kmph. The industrial hub experienced a significant thermal swing as grey skies dominated the horizon from early Tuesday morning.Daytime high, recorded at 24.2°C, was a staggering 9.1°C below normal for this time of year and nearly 7°C cooler than Monday. Nighttime low, settled at 18.2°C, remaining 1.8°C above normal due to the insulating effect of the cloud cover. Rainfall totals remained modest but impactful, with 1.8 mm recorded in the 24 hours ending Tuesday morning, followed by an additional 0.5 mm throughout the day.The "yellow alert" serves as a formal advisory for local departments to remain updated on shifting weather patterns. The IMD forecast for Ludhiana includes high probability of lightning and gusty winds (30-40 kmph) on Wednesday. Thursday skies are expected to transition to "partly cloudy". Friday onward, IMD sees a return to "mainly clear skies" for the remainder of the week.Temperatures are expected to rebound quickly, with daytime peaks projected to hit 32°C by Saturday and 33°C by Monday. Conversely, nighttime temperatures are forecast to dip to a crisp 14°C by Thursday before stabilizing at 17°C over the weekend.Mixed Reactions from ResidentsThe sudden cooling triggered a wave of outdoor activity, though some parents remained cautious. "Monday was quite warm, so this sudden change was a surprise," said local resident Manoj Kumar. "The cool breeze during the day was wonderful for an evening walk."However, others took a more guarded approach to the damp conditions. Resident Sandeep Singh opted to keep his children indoors despite the "pleasant" lure of the drizzle. "I didn't allow my children to play outside because of the health risks," he said. "Parents should remain cautious in this transition weather to avoid the risk of the common cold."
