The district education officer (DEO) had formed a panel to look into the “mental harassment” allegations against a block primary education officer (BPEO), on the complaint of education volunteer Gagandeep Kaur of Government Primary School, Sekhewal, whose “suicide note” had gone viral.

Earlier, Naresh Kumar, the principal of GSSS-Sekhewal was appointed as the inquiry officer, but he has now been replaced by GSSS-Bassian principal Gurdeep Singh, after protest by the union.

The Democratic Teachers’ Front (DTF) said: “The former inquiry officer belonged to the senior secondary branch of the same school, which may lead to partiality and discrimination of the inquiry report. Thus we requested the DEO to change the inquiry officer to eliminate biases.”

DTF president Daljit Singh also asked for transfer of the BPEO.

Two other inquiry officers are Vishwakirat Kaur Kahlon, principal of GSSS-Model Town, and Kamaljit Kaur, principal of GSSS-Haibowal Khurd.
