LUDHIANA: Police were on their toes early Saturday morning after a call from a person claiming to be from Babbar Khalsa threatened to blow up the city railway station.
According to information, it was around 2.45 am on Saturday that a call from mobile number 9781015167 was received at police control room and the caller, who claimed to be from Babbar Khalsa, said his men were already at the railway station with all equipment and weapons.

He dared police to save the railway station and people there, saying they were going to blow up the station.
Within minutes, GRP and RPF were alerted and search operation was started at the railway station. We carried out a search operation for almost two hours, but to no avail as we failed to find any suspect there. The call turned out to be a hoax, said Gurjasbir, post-commandant of Railway Police Force (RPF).
On August 25, terrorist Balbir Singh Bhootna, suspected to be linked with Babbar Khalsa and other terrorist organizations, was caught by police following an operation carried out to nab him for around four hours. In the operation, one vendor was killed and two GRP constables were seriously injured.
When approached around noon on Saturday, SSP Sukhchain Singh Gill said, I am not aware of the incident and will have to enquire of my officers about it. Police have, in the past, arrested numerous people apparently linked with Bhootna.
