Bizmen meet PSPCL chief over power cuts in ind areas
Ludhiana: Irked by regular power cuts caused by shifting of feeders in Giaspura division to Miller Ganj division, a delegation of industrialists with factories in Daba and Giaspura areas on Thursday met the Punjab State Power Corporation Limited (PSPCL) chief engineer S R Vashishat.Amarjit Singh Chauhan, president of Small Scale Industries Association, Daba Road, urged the PSPCL chief to immediately shift the feeders for their area back to Giaspura division, so that the industry could run smoothly. He said, “Lot of power cuts are taking place in our areas which affect the factory production, and PSPCL needs to take special care to ensure uninterrupted power supply to industrial areas. The other major issue bothering the industry is that some time back, the feeders catering to Daba Road and nearby industrial areas were shifted from Giaspura division, which is just within 1km, to Millerganj division, which is 5km from here. Due to this, we have started facing problems like long waiting time to get complaints resolved, and frequent power cuts.” Besides, they also requested him to replace old hanging wires in industrial areas.Paramdeep Singh Sohal of the association said, “The wires, especially behind the Satguru Pratap Singh Hospital and in street number 8, have become too old and loose, causing a high risk of short circuit and other incidents. There are also direct power connections without termination kit in Kabir Nagar, Amarpuri and Baba Mukand Singh Nagar; and shortage of staff in Giaspura division is also an issue.”The city industrialists asked the PSPCL to end frequent power maintenance activities.Harish Kairpal, president of Ludhiana MSME Association said, “The frequent power cuts in the name of scheduled maintenance have become headache for the industry, especially the units in mix land use (MLU) areas. The PSPCL should now end this activity and focus on arranging adequate power to meet the demand.”
