Bahomajra liquor trail leads to Rajpura, Samrala, supplier held
Ludhiana: Three days after an illegal
The accused was identified as Jasvir Singh of Mal Majra in Samrala.
On Wednesday, Khanna police had booked Rajiv Gupta of Dugri-I in Ludhiana, Harwinder Singh, Chander Prakash and Jatinder Kumar, all of Ganganagar, Jatinderpal Singh of Khanna and an unidentified man into the matter.
Khanna SSP said Harwinder spilled the beans during interrogation and named the suppliers — Lavan Kumar of Patiala, Bhupinder Singh of Rajpura, Chirag of Delhi, Sumit Kumar of Delhi, Vivek of Chandigarh, Aditya Tyagi of Saharanpur, Jasvir Singh of Mal Majra in Samrala — in the case.
Police officials said Harwinder used to buy spirit from Bhupinder to make liquor. Afterwards, the excise department raided his dhaba in Rajpura and seized 17 drums of spirit (3,740 litres) and eight drums of chemical (1,760 litres).
Cops said the accused managed to run away from the spot and a case was registered against him at Shambhu police station. During questioning, it came to the fore that Harwinder was wanted in 12 cases in various police stations in the state.
The SSP said a CIA Khanna team arrested Jasvir Singh, a supplier of the illicit liquor from Mal Majra, and recovered two boxes of liquor made in the distillery at Bahomajra. He said during questioning, Jasvir confessed that he had supplied 500 to 600 boxes of liquor made in the factory in Samrala.
Khanna police in coordination with excise department is conducting raids at various places to arrest the remaining accused in the case. They said since the liquor made in the factory was illicit, it could have proved life-threatening for consumers.
Cops on Wednesday had seized 413 boxes of illicit liquor, 1,444 boxes of liquor in drums, 19 drums of spirit of 200 litres each (3,800 litres total), 8,000 unfilled bottles, 80 bags bottle caps, 250 litre scent and machinery to produce liquor from Bahomajra factory. Police had also seized an Innova vehicle, a canter, a tractor trolley and Rs 5.82 lakh.
Police had booked the accused for fraud, forgery etc and sections of Excise and disaster Management act at Sadar Khanna Police Station.
