LUDHIANA: The city is the most fascinating destination for 46-year-old Martin Victor of California, an artist now residing at Sarabha Nagar with his wife, a teacher. This is his second visit to Ludhiana and his third one to India. He has now decided to settle down in the city.
"Being in Ludhiana has been a very interesting experience. People are warm here.
The social atmosphere is commendable. I have had diverse experiences here that include visiting gurdwaras and making new friends," said Martin.
Punjabi food has also impressed Victor. Talking about the same, he said, "The food is a little too spicy for me. All the same, I love to have traditional food of Punjab like sarson da saag. I also relish palak paneer, paranthas and pakoras." He added that wherever he goes, he carries his camera with him so that he can capture interesting and beautiful images of the city.
Talking about his other tastes, he revealed, "I have been into painting since 2002. I don't have any degree in it but I have attended some workshops to polish my skills. Nowadays, I am organizing workshops in schools here. I am also planning to hold an art exhibition towards the end of this month."
He added, "I have always been creatively inclined and involved in writing poetry as well as various craft projects including working with ceramics. I also view my work on a spiritual level. Gods and Goddesses, mythological creatures and mythology are constant themes within my work."
Santosh Shroff, his mother-in-law, said, "His urge to learn Hindi is commendable. I cook dal rice and poories for him and he enjoys them. He has learned some Hindi too. I have seen his works; each of his creation is like an inner journey and meditation." Sonia Victor, his wife, said, "Martin is very adjusting by nature. He has adjusted very well here which makes him very different from others. He is very sweet-natured and adorable. He has tried hard to get acquainted with the city and he dislikes the traffic here."
