LUDHIANA: The need to develop green cover at the district courts complex has pushed the advocates to get together and convert a vacant spot in Lawyers' Chambers part II into a lush green lawn.
Apart form increasing the greenery at the complex, the lawn will also provide advocates and litigants a place to sit and relax.
Advocate Gurvinder Singh Sodhi, secretary District Bar Association, says they had started to work on developing this lawn four months ago.
"With time, many lawyers have joined us in this work with enthusiasm. We had got the stretch cleared and had planted 25 ficus plants here," he adds.
Among other advocates who have been dedicated to develop the green patch at the courts complex is Charanjeet Singh Channa. He says, "I want this stretch to become an example for others. I have got another 100 plants to decorate the lawn and even hired a gardener privately as there wasn't any caretaker appointed by the District Bar Association."
Advocate Deepjot Singh adds, "What is really good about the project is that it has brought all the advocates together for a noble cause. We all have to make an effort to enhance the green cover in the city starting with the premises we use ourselves."
"The advocates should take this effort of promoting greenery to their localities as well in order to protect the environment and reduce the pollution level," says advocate Bir Inder Singh Sekhon.
Advocate Nittin and Karamveer Singh said of all the works to be done at the courts complex, developing the green cover is the most important one.
The visitors to the complex are also happy with advocates' endeavour. "We can sit and relax on the lawn while waiting rather than climbing the stairs again and again," said litigant Dharam Puri, a resident of SKS Nagar, Phase II.
