2,500 trees planted in 15 govt schools

Ludhiana: A week-long plantation drive was carried out by Vardhman Foundation, a CSR wing of Vardhman Group, in four states — Madhya Pradesh, Himachal Pradesh, Punjab and Gujarat.

The drive covered 15 government schools, including six villages of Ludhiana. More than 2500 trees have been planted in Ludhiana alone while the total number of trees will exceed 50,000.

The school authorities, forest department, village and district administration along with the employees of Vardhman Group participated in the drive. Students, their parents, school staff and village sarpanches were also given saplings for plantation near their houses.

Most of the saplings were of fruit trees.

Sagrika Jain from Vardhman Group participated in the event at Government High School, Lohara, Ludhiana.

The education department officials also encouraged the initiative. Besides the plantation drive, a sanitary napkin vending machine and incinerator was installed at Government High School, Lohara, as part of company’s ‘Nandini’ project.
