MISSIONARY CHOWK: The traffic cops at Missionary Chowk hadn't thought they were about to catch a large consignment of prohibited drugs when they tried to stop Jodh Singh, who was carrying the booty in a bag on his scooter.
Baldev Singh, Rai Singh and Jagtar Singh were on duty Tuesday evening when they stopped the accused Jodh Singh, 30, a resident of Shimlapuri.
They recovered 3,000 Parvon spas capsules, 90 bottles of Rexcof syrup, 90 Phenotil pouches, 25 Norgesic injections, 25 AVL injections, 450 Nitraapam-10 tablets and 250 Carisol tablets.
Head constable (traffic) Baldev Singh said when they signalled Jodh Singh to stop near the chowk, his activity seemed suspicious and he tried to flee. The cops stopped him suspecting he did not have the complete documents, but when questioned about his bag, Jodh said he was carrying medicines and refused to open it up. When the traffic cops forced him to open the bag and found medicines in such quantity, they informed the cops at Kotwali police station, who nabbed the accused and seized the drugs.
ACP, North, Swapan Sharma said even other traffic cops should learn from this incident that being vigilant on duty could help them nab criminals as well. The accused had brought these drugs from Pindi Street, but the point of supply isn't known yet, said the ACP, adding, "We have registered a case against the accused and the names of these traffic cops have been recommended to the commissioner for an appreciation award.''
