YAKSH App helps Jaunpur police solve robbery case within hours; looted bike, mobile recovered

LUCKNOW: In a striking example of technology-driven policing, Jaunpur police solved a robbery case involving a gunshot injury within hours using the newly introduced Yaksh App, a digital investigative tool developed under the leadership of DGP Rajeev Krishna.

The Yaksh App, which was launched by Yogi Adityanath during the “Police Manthan” programme, is being projected as a major technological innovation aimed at strengthening smart policing in the state. Equipped with features such as a statewide digital database of criminals, CCTV camera mapping and rapid analytical tools, the application is designed to assist police units in faster crime detection and investigation.

A recent case in Jaunpur district has highlighted the app’s operational effectiveness.

According to police, an incident of robbery accompanied by a gunshot injury was reported on March 11, 2026 in Jaunpur district. The case was registered as Crime No. 50/2026 under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.

Soon after receiving the information, police teams launched an investigation and began using the Yaksh App to track the suspects.
Investigators first used the application to identify CCTV cameras located in and around the crime scene. Footage from these cameras was quickly examined, allowing police to identify suspicious individuals and trace the probable routes taken by the offenders before and after the incident.

Based on the movement pattern, investigators narrowed down the search to three possible police station jurisdictions — Kerakat, Chandwak and Gaurabadshahpur — from where the suspects could have originated.

Using the Yaksh App’s integrated criminal database, police retrieved details of 232 individuals previously involved in robbery and snatching cases in these areas. Photographs of the suspects were shown to the victim, enabling investigators to identify three accused involved in the robbery within a few hours.

Police said the application maintains multi-angle photographic records of criminals, which made it easier for the victim to confirm the identities of the accused.

Notably, the robbery took place at around 9 pm and within nearly three hours the accused were identified and apprehended. Police also recovered the looted black motorcycle (UP 62 AW 6194) and the victim’s mobile phone.

Inspector General of Police, Varanasi Range, Vaibhav Krishna said the Yaksh App marks a major shift from traditional investigation methods.

Earlier, police relied on the Village Crime Note Book maintained at police stations to track habitual offenders. With the digital platform, investigators can now access statewide criminal records instantly, significantly speeding up the investigative process, he said.

Speaking about the case, DGP Rajeev Krishna said the Jaunpur incident demonstrated how technology could act as a “force multiplier” in policing.

He said that under the leadership of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, the Uttar Pradesh Police is moving toward a model where traditional policing is complemented by advanced digital tools and artificial intelligence-based systems.
“While our personnel continue to strengthen foot patrolling and ground intelligence on the streets, we are equally empowering them with cutting-edge tools and digital platforms such as the Yaksh App,” he said, adding that integrating criminal data, CCTV mapping and analytical capabilities enables officers to connect the dots of crime within minutes.

The operation in Jaunpur was supervised by Senior Superintendent of Police Kunwar Anupam Singh along with Ayush Shrivastav, Additional Superintendent of Police Goldi Gupta and Shrushti Jain. This leadership team in Jaunpur includes several tech-savvy officers, having backgrounds in computer engineering, which has helped in effectively integrating digital tools into policing operations.
