Women unsafe under BJP govt, need reservation & protection: Akhilesh
Lucknow: Samajwadi party president Akhilesh Yadav on Thursday said women were most unsafe under the BJP govt with rising incidents of rape, sexual assault and murder being reported from the state and along with reservation, they need protection too.
“Under the BJP govt women and daughters are most unsafe. Incidents of crime against women like rape, sexual assault and murders were on the rise. Govt has done nothing for women in the health or education sector. Women need reservation and along with it, protection too,” Akhilesh said while talking to the media in Etawah on Thursday.
He said the BJP was cent percent against women.
Akhilesh was responding to a media query over BJP pointing fingers at the Opposition for stalling the women quota bill when he said it was actually the BJP which maintains a discriminatory approach towards women and does not want to give them the due honour and respect.
“SP wants caste enumeration based on which women from the deprived and neglected sections should be given their due. But the BJP does not want to give reservation as provided in the Constitution of India drafted by Dr BR Ambedkar,” Akhilesh said.
Asked about West Bengal, Akhilesh said the Trinamool Congress, led by Mamata Banerjee, was headed for a clear victory in the assembly elections, while the BJP was facing a historic defeat. “Mamata Didi will again be sworn in as chief minister after the results,” he said.
Akhilesh was talking to the media after attending the 108 Kundiya Mahayagya and Bhagwat Katha at Sri Ramkrishna Dham in Chakranagar area of Etawah.
After attending the ceremony, Akhilesh said religion did not discriminate between anyone and showed the path to prosperity and wellbeing.
‘BJP workers attacked SP delegation in Ghazipur’
Lucknow: Akhilesh Yadav on Thursday said a party delegation that was heading to meet the Vishwakarma family in Ghazipur whose daughter had recently been murdered, was attacked by BJP men with the police in tow. Despite video evidence, action was only being initiated against SP functionaries.
“These days people shoot videos of all the action. People had stored stones on their rooftops and attacked the SP delegation. But police took no action against those who stored and pelted stones with police by their side,” Akhilesh said.
Akhilesh said SP functionaries who suffered injuries in the attack and hospitalised, were taken away from the hospital and arrested.
