Women quota bill is notified; BJP is lying: Akhilesh
Lucknow: Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav on Tuesday accused the BJP of blatantly lying and misleading the people that the Opposition had blocked the Women’s Reservation Bill.
He said the Bill was passed in 2023 and has been notified as well and that the BJP was not inclined to give reservation to women hence was misleading people.
BJP is one party which cannot take defeats sportingly and can go to any extent (to avoid it). He said the fact that the recent Bills moved by the BJP-led NDA were blocked by the Opposition in the Parliament has marked the start of BJP’s political downfall. This has signaled that the BJP was now heading for a defeat.
“The BJP is scared that it will be ousted (from power) and once removed they will never return … this fear is mounting on them,” Akhilesh said addressing a press conference.
Akhilesh said BJP was staging marches and protests claiming that the Opposition had stalled the women’s reservation bill.
“But the fact is that the Bill was passed and has been notified as well. It was not the women’s reservation bill but the conspiracy and ill-intentions of the BJP that we as the Opposition had blocked,” the former UP CM said.
“The protest march taken out by the CM and his cabinet colleagues was an attempt to mask party’s humiliation at the hands of the Opposition,” Akhilesh said referring to the Delimitation and women reservation amendment bill blocked by the Opposition in the Lok Sabha.
He said the BJP wanted to divide the women by way of the amendment bill and since the Opposition has failed their attempt, the BJP is trying to hide its defeat.
“The BJP tried to divide the women and the PDA community will respond to it in the 2027 polls by voting out the saffron party. It will be the first time in the history of the country that a political party will be defeated by a community – the PDA community-- and that too in a manner that it (BJP) will never return (to power) again,” Akhilesh said.
‘BJP’s padyatra a rehearsal for life in Opposition’
Lucknow: Taking a jibe at the BJP’s padyatra in Lucknow, Akhilesh said it was a rehearsal by the BJP on what the party will do in Opposition once they are ousted from govt in the 2027 elections.
“Ye jo padyatra thi woh practice hai ki vipaksh mein aise hi andonlan karna pardega (This padyatra was a practice session on how the BJP will have to hold agitations in Opposition),” he said, adding that this was the first time that a govt in power was practising for its stint in Opposition.
“Isse pehle kisi ne apne banaye hue qanoon ke liye itna sangharsh nahi kiya hoga jitna ye sarkar kar rahi hai (No other govt would have struggled to get its law passed the way this govt has had),” he said.
