Madhu and Amish were killed on the spot, while Anya succumbed in hospital.
Speaking to TOI, public relation officer of Lucknow division, north eastern railway, Mahesh Gupta, said, "Three persons were run over by Oscillation Monitoring System (OMS) train, which was heading towards Gorakhpur for a rail track inspection. The incident happened 100 meter away from the manned level crossing.”
According to railway staff who witnessed the incident, the woman allegedly waited for the train to come closer before walking towards the OMS which had one engine and two coaches.

Ramesh Kumar Patil, the investigation officer of the case from Mahanagar police said, “Since the family of the victim is in deep trauma, we are yet to speak about the incident with them to ascertain the sequence of events.”
However, the IO emphasised that it was for the first time that the deceased Madhu went near the railway track along with kids. Her elder son was in school uniform; he studied in Class 3 of the City Montessori School, Mahanagar branch.
The distance between Madhu’s residence and railway track is nearly 5000 metres, while distance between CMS Mahanagar to the incident spot is nearly a km.

Both, Shashi Bhushan Gupta and his wife, were unemployed. IO Patel said the family was surviving on the pension fund of Ramsurat Gupta, father of Shashi Bhushan Gupta. Ramsurat retired last year from the Uttar Pradesh information department.
Sources claimed that the couple had a strained relationship for many months due to financial reasons.
