Woman duped of ₹8 lakh, 2 arrested

Lucknow: Two men duped an Aashiana resident woman of Rs 8 lakh on the pretext of getting her a job in a government department. With the help of bank officials, they even helped her avail of a loan for the same amount to pay them. Police registered FIR on Tuesday and arrested the accused.Preeti Saxena was contacted by Anuj Srivastava of Rae Bareli and lured her with offer of a full-time government job and asked her to meet him at the Alambagh bus station. He introduced her to his aide Anand Mishra of LDA colony. Mishra told Preeti that he worked in the secretariat and had a good rapport with higher officials in the government.Later, Anuj and Anand told Preeti they had arranged a job for her, but it would cost her Rs 8 lakh and offered to help her get a loan from Union Bank of India in Aashiana. Preeti gave her Aadhaar card and documents.Anuj got the loan amount sanctioned and the first installment of Rs 49,325 was transferred to Preeti's bank account. Anand transferred the money to his own account immediately. The remaining amount was also transferred to Preeti's account, and Anand took Rs 1 lakh from her in cash. The miscreants did not fulfill their promise of getting Preeti a job and when she asked for her money back, they switched off their phones .

Aavin told to help farmers with loans

The Minister for Dairy Development in Chennai has called on Aavin officers to assist dairy farmers in obtaining loans for cattle and setting up new sheds. He also asked for the expansion of a method that assesses the quality of milk and ensures prompt payment to farmers. In other news, the state Food and Drug Administration found that 1% of milk supply in Mumbai was of substandard quality, and the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India has launched a nationwide study on milk and milk products to combat adulteration.
