Woman battered to death

LUCKNOW: A 28-year-old woman was battered to death while her husband and two kids were injured in the state capital on Tuesday. According to the police, the incident was reported from New Para Colony under the Talkatora police circle.
The police said that the family, comprising the victim Mala Awasthi and her husband (an insurance agent) Pankaj Awasthi (30), besides the kids, eight-month-old Golu and Anshu (3), was living in the house for the last six months.The murder was reportedly discovered at around 8 am when a milk-woman knocked on the door.
After getting no response, she alerted Dinesh Mishra, a relative and neighbour of the family. After they knocked again, an injured Pankaj opened the door. On entering the two-room house they saw Mala���s body lying on the floor with her injured kids.
Pankaj, who was not fully conscious because of his head injury, told police that three persons had forced themselves into the house around 2:30 am on Tuesday and assaulted the family with a wooden stick when they were sleeping. The family reportedly had returned from a party late on Monday night.
Senior superintendent of police (SSP) Lucknow, Akhil Kumar said that nothing could be confirmed till the police interrogate the victim���s husband.
