NEW DELHI: Sonam Raghuvanshi, wife of Indore resident Raja Raghuvanshi, was found at a roadside eatery on the Varanasi-Ghazipur main road in Uttar Pradesh, said a senior police official of Uttar Pradesh Police on Monday. Her arrest comes a day after Sonam’s mother requested for a CBI probe into the matter.
Sonam (24), who had gone missing with her husband during their honeymoon in Meghalaya, is now in custody following her surrender.
ADG (Law and Order), Uttar Pradesh, Amitabh Yash said, "Sonam Raghuvanshi, aged about 24 years, was found at Kashi Dhaba on the Varanasi-Ghazipur main road. She was sent to Sadar Hospital for initial treatment and then kept in the One Stop Centre in Ghazipur."
The breakthrough came a day after Sonam's mother, Sangeeta Raghuvanshi, made an emotional plea for a CBI inquiry. “We want CBI inquiry to begin so that my daughter can come home as soon as possible. We want our daughter to be found as soon as possible.”
The couple had vanished on May 23 while vacationing in Meghalaya. Raja's body was found on June 2 in a deep gorge near Cherrapunji, prompting a murder investigation.
Meghalaya chief minister Conrad Sangma took to social media to announce the case breakthrough, revealing that three assailants from Madhya Pradesh had been arrested. “A female has also surrendered,” he added.
Meghalaya DGP later identified the woman who surrendered as Sonam Raghuvanshi, further deepening suspicions about her involvement in her husband’s murder.
Raja's grieving family has also written to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, urging a CBI probe into the matter to ensure justice.
