He also said that individuals must transcend personal avarice as “corruption is not like smoke that rises up, but like a waterfall which permeates deep inside the society.�
He was speaking at the inaugural session of the two-day 10th Northern Regional Convention, hosted by the Lucknow Management Association, on the theme “Leading the transformation from rhetoric to action� here on Friday.

Later, Dr Yogendra K Alagh, former VC, Jawahar Lal Nehru University, said that sustainable development for the under-developed states was not possible without tapping indigenous resources and linking them with the global economy.
While FC Kohli, speaking on how India needs to re-educate itself, lamented that “We produce nearly 3000 engineers from some of the premier institutions in our country, out of which 2000 migrate to foreign countries and 500-odd join business schools, leaving only a handful to join the public sector.�
Rita Sarin, director of the Hunger Project, said that the biggest example of what was ailing the system was “the existence of 60 million tonnes of foodgrain rotting in our godowns while 225 million go hungry ... the excuse is that the PDS system is corrupt.

Other eminent speakers present included Dr Nitish Sen Gupta, DG IMI, Anil Nadkarni, ED Siemens India, Satish Kaura, CMD Samtel and Dr NK Dhoopar, Director, Jaipuria Institute of Management.
The LMA also announced the ‘UP Transformational Leadership Award’ which went to Satish Kaura, CMD, Samtel. While the ‘Distinguished Member Awards’ were bagged by TN Dhar, A Vivek, AK Ganguly and Jayant Krishna for excelling in their respective fields despite adversities. The Best Local Management Award went to the Ludhiana Association.
Due to a last minute cancellation by chief minister Mayawati, the awards were presented by Chief Secretary DS Bagga.
