KANPUR: Everyone should aim at making the nation healthy through healthy people and healthy living, said deputy director of the Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur, Kripa Shankar, while addressing the All-India Science Fair-2004, as chief guest here on Sunday.
The event, being organised by Vidya Bharti at Jai Narayan Vidya Mandir, was inaugurated with a recital of the Saraswati Vandana.

Vidya Bharti secretary Deenanath Batra said that progress in science was important for the welfare of the world.
Quoting the President of India, he said people should “have a big dream�. The big dream did not mean achievement for self alone, but the progress of the whole world. Every citizen should strive to maintain the glory of the nation, he added. Kripa Shankar said that the supremacy of Indians worldwide was due to the fact that even small children developed scientific temper by participating in such exhibitions. He stressed the importance practical knowledge over theoretical knowledge.
Vidya Bharti chairman DP Singh said that science and technology were the two sides of same coin, as the development of one definitely affected the other.
School chairman Ishwarchand Gupta said that the knowledge in philosophy was important in maintaining national character. Students from all over the country participated in the event. The models prepared by the students covered health, nutrition, vedic mathematics, technology, agriculture and other topics.
Neetu Ramani, a standard 10 student displayed a model showing the spread of malaria, its prevention and cure. Another giant model demonstrating detailed method of water management, prepared by Anusubha and Toshi of Ratanlal College, Mathura, attracted many visitors. The fair would continue on Monday.
